Dr Perera is a graduate of Monash University with honours. Earlier in his career, he was an emergency registrar and worked at Concord, Westmead and Blacktown emergency departments.
Dr Perera is passionate about general practice and loves to promote a holistic approach to diagnosis and management. His specialist interests include geriatrics, sports and exercise medicine, mental health, diabetes, and obesity management. He undertook a year-long thesis in the field of diabetes. Dr Perera has undergone additional training in mental health and is FPS accredited (focused psychological strategies), allowing him to regularly provide CBT, acceptance and other counselling services to patients.
He still engages in high-level sports. His sporting achievements include being a national finalist in powerlifting in 2017 and playing Sydney-grade cricket. His other hobbies include building computers, all things home theatre, and watching movies.
