Dr Fernando is a warm and friendly doctor who is one of the senior General Practitioners at our practice. His many years of medical experience began when he obtained his medical degree in 2002. He is a graduate of the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka and went onto work for many years in Sri Lanka in a variety of hospitals such as Colombo Teaching Hospital, Chilaw General Hospital and Ragama General Hospital. These initial years at very busy hospitals with many patients with a wide variety of conditions formed a strong foundation of knowledge. He especially enjoys the fields of General Medicine and Orthopaedics (the treatment of fractures and joint problems).
Dr Fernando emigrated to Australia where he continued to gain experience in many different hospital and clinic settings. While he enjoyed many aspects of medicine, General Practice was what really attracted him. He undertook his postgraduate training under the Royal Australian College of General Practice and became fully qualified as a Fellow in 2014.
Dr Fernando has a special interest in skin cancer and is very passionate about the prevention of this condition. He is very involved in performing mole checks using our state of the art machine, Dermdoc.
