We are aware of a recent phishing email that was sent from one of Neutral Bay Medical Practice’s email accounts to some of our patients, which encouraged recipients to click a link.
As soon as we became aware of the issue, we took immediate steps to secure the affected mailbox and prevent any further unauthorised access. Our investigation identified that the mailbox had been temporarily accessed by an unauthorised third-party.
Based on the findings of our investigation to date, the access was limited to some contact information within the mailbox to enable the phishing campaign.
We recognise this may be concerning and we are responding with the support of IT and cyber security specialists. We have also provided information and guidance to members of our community who may have received this email.
Recommended actions
If you received an email of this nature, we recommend you take the following actions:
- Do not click any link contained in that email, and please delete it from your inbox.
- If you clicked the link, run an antivirus scan on your device and change your passwords, beginning with your email password. If you use the same password for any other accounts, we recommend changing those also.
- If you provided any personal, login or payment details, change your passwords immediately and contact your financial institution.
