Dr Devapriya is a friendly doctor with many years of medical experience. He graduated with his medical degree from Dr M.G.R Medical University in India in 1990. He completed his internship at Coimbatore Medical college before working in very rural areas of Kerala at Catholic Mission Hospitals, these areas weren’t even serviced by public buses. He then decided to move to Sri Lanka to gain further experience and training. He worked in many different hospitals and different departments. This included being a Senior Medical Officer in Women’s Health at Matale Base Hospital, Registrar in Paediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care at Sri Jeyawardenepura Hospital from 1993 to 2001 as well as being in charge of Nawaloka Private Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit till 2005.
After moving to Australia, he explored other areas of Medicine. From 2008 till 2011, he worked at The Northern Hospital in a variety of departments such as Psychiatry, Obstetrics, Oncology, Night doctor for Medical and Surgical Wards. He worked at Bundoora Extended Care Centre in Geriatrics (care for the elderly), Rehabilitation post-stroke and other injuries, and Aged Psychiatry. He worked as a senior medical officer in Psychiatry with the Darebin Community Mental Health Unit.
Dr Arunan really enjoys the diversity of General Practice and the ability to treat people from all different demographic groups. He also loves to apply his experience in Emergency Medicine in certain situations in General Practice.
Outside Medicine, he has many interests. He is a keen sportsman who played cricket and table tennis for his medical college at the state level. He also loves to draw portraits of famous people as well as being an avid reader with a large collection of books, especially autobiographies.
