This week 4-11 July, is NAIDOC week. The theme for this year, Heal Country! – calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
The 2021 NAIDOC National poster, ‘Care for Country’ was created by Gubbi Gubbi artist Maggie-Jean Douglas. Using the 2021 NAIDOC Week theme, Heal Country! as inspiration, ‘Care for Country’ is a bright and vibrant artwork that explores how Country has cared for and healed First Nations people spiritually, emotionally, socially and culturally.
The artwork includes communities, people, animals and bush medicines spread over different landscapes of red dirt, green grass, bushland and coastal areas to tell the story of the many ways Country can and has healed us throughout our lives and journeys.
As an organisation whose purpose is to aid the well-being of our communities, we feel passionate about helping to raise awareness for what we as a nation need to do to create a lasting change and heal. https://www.naidoc.org.au/get-involved/2021-theme
